Bits and pieces... 2

I hadn't finished sealing the centre seam where I had lifted it earlier on in the job so that needs to be done. When I went to do it I noticed that one of the screws was not getting a proper grip when I screwed it in. I thought it was worth showing you a fix for this on the off-chance that you don't know what to do. Basically you take an old match, or a piece of wood roughly the same size, and poke it in the hole. This will give the screw something to bite on and should hold firm. Like this (I left a bit sticking out for the picture).

Now when I tighten the screw it gets a good hold and helps squeeze the mastic tight. All I need to do now is clean off the excess.

At the beginning of last week I picked away at little jobs I could do out of the rain. I built a battery box for under one of the benches. Previously the battery was in the gas compartment. I built a nice plywood box and lined the base of it with fibre glass. Then I painted the inside of the box with fibre glass resin. There shouldn't be any acid spillage, but if there is this should contain it. I will route the breather pipe from the battery down an through a hole in the base. Here it is showing the inside and the second picture shows the underside and fixing bolts.

I also made a wee tidy for the cables that come in through the floor. I changed the fuse box as well to a spade type. They are easier to get than the older "bullet" type that was in it. Actually, this was all at the suggestion of my brother who has been invaluable throughout this whole project. If you are thinking of doing a project of your own I can hire him out on favourable terms,. he doesn't eat much but he does tend to babble a bit if you show him where you keep your Budweiser!

Another part that he did for me was making me some "load spreading rivets". The fixtures that hold the seats to the walls are attached with special rivets. I couldn't source some easily so he made me some. If you are interested here is how to do it. Rivets:

I built up the seat next to the door on one of these rainy days, so today I put the other one in. Here is the picture of the inside of the van as it is right now. (Sorry about the mess).

So, thats where I am up to tonight. It is to be a fine day again tomorrow so I hope to be able to crack on with the trims.
